Nick Reiber-Hodgson
Bass guitar, vocals
Along with Paul E, Nick is one of the original founding members of Electrichead.
Nick's interest in music first began at age eleven, inspired by the success of his older brother Al, who was already excelling as a signed, gigging drummer. As Nick was fairly shy in his childhood, his parents recommended he take up the bass, so that he could be "the quiet one that stands at the back with the drummer" away from the glare of the spotlight.
Over the next few years Nick joined and formed a number of bands, playing both his own original material and covers in local pubs and venues. He also began writing and recording his own original material, growing as a performer and song-writer.
As his musical experience grew as did Nick's confidence, deciding to step forward and try his hand at vocals after having backed bands for so long. He also turned his attention to playing exclusively original material, gigging around Oxford and London with the band 'Rotor Blade' in persuit of a record deal.
Nick's bands would frequently change line-up, but after having placed an advert for musicians in the newspaper, 'Mask Party' was formed in the late 1980's, in which Nick first became exclusively a vocalist and frontman.
It was then that his musical career hit a high point, where after having submitted a Mask Party demo to the Yamaha Band Explosion competition of 1989, the band were selected to represent the UK in the final, held at the Budokan Stadium, Tokyo. The band performed their material to a worldwide television audience, winning the gold grand prize and later performing on stage alongside Bon Jovi.
After his success with Mask Party Nick would become involved in a number of other originals projects, among them 'The Works', 'Puretone' and 'Oceansize'. However, after gigging with a set of mixed originals and covers, it soon became apparent that covers provoked a better audience reaction, prompting Nick to form exclusively covers acts.
It was around this time that Nick met Paul E, after both having established themselves on the local music scene, eventually prompting discussions to collaborate.
After dismissing the idea of forming a Rage Against the Machine tribute act, it was decided a rock covers band would be more feasible, and calling upon Oceansize drummer Danny Gonzalez along with guitarist Rob Paige, ELECTRICHEAD was formed.
When not performing with Electrichead, Nick still performs regularly with other bands as well as writing, recording and producing his own material.
